How to encourage bees, insects, hedgehogs & birds into your garden

With more and more natural habitats being destroyed, wild animals may find themselves struggling to find somewhere to live and feed. Thankfully there are plenty of things we can all do in our garden to help provide a nice habitat for local wildlife.   Hedgehogs These small and nocturnal mammals are so inconspicuous you may not even realise you already have a hedgehog living in your garden. Hedgehogs are brilliant for keeping the insect population down in your garden as they love to eat the insects that enjoy chomping on your plants and vegetables such as; beetles, slugs, worms, caterpillars and millipedes. Welcome hedgehogs into your garden by giving them a warm, safe and cosy hedgehog house to live in.   Bees and insects Not all insects are out to eat your garden though, some of them can actually be beneficial to your garden. We often hear that bee numbers are dropping; these creatures play an important role in our garden and are responsible for pollinating flowers, fruit and vegetables. All of our bee houses have been designed to specifically attract solitary bees, such as the Red Mason, which are non-swarming bees. This means these bees are perfectly safe around your children and pets. We have a selection of beautiful bee & insect houses and bee logs which will make the perfect addition to your garden and give bees and insects a nice place to live.   Birds It’s lovely to hear and see birds in the garden; it makes it feel homely and alive. Provide your feathered friends with a place to live and somewhere to eat by choosing from one of our plain, practical or novelty birdboxes. (Our Letterbox Birdhouse is a real hit with our customers!) We also sell a wide range of bird feeders, so you’re sure to find one suitable for your garden. If you’re feeling particularly hands on though, we also offer a build your own bird feeder kit. Don’t forget to keep filling up your bird baths, especially during warmer spells. Visit our birdcare and wildlife sections to view our comprehensive range of products designed to help you provide the right food and habitats for the good guys and make your garden a more interesting place.
